Crooked and misaligned teeth can put additional pressure on certain teeth and also make it more challenging to keep teeth clean. Wondering if your child’s teeth may benefit from braces or whether teeth will simply straighten out as their mouth continues to develop? This is something that our dental team can determine when you bring your child in for an evaluation. One of the benefits of a combined Pediatric and Orthodontic office is that your child will be evaluated for potential orthodontic problems at EVERY visit–no extra charge, haha! If the pediatric team finds a concern developing early, they will recommend a consult with the orthodontist. Some kids may need an orthodontic evaluation as early as age 7, but the majority of our patients don’t actually need braces until between the ages of 9 and 16. Early braces, when baby teeth are still present, is usually much less than a year and is aimed at preventing future problems.

Most kids won’t end up needing braces until all of the permanent teeth come, but there are some critical developmental issues (like cross-bites) that occur and need to be addressed early. By examining your child’s teeth when it’s a mix of permanent and baby teeth we can make correcting misaligned and crooked smiles much easier. It’s much easier to fix these specific problems while your child’s face and jaws are still growing and developing.
